DECLARATION OF PRINCPLES
“The Progressive Dozen” Pledge

 

DEMOCRACY FOR ALL

  • Run campaigns free of corporate and PAC money with particular attention to conflicts of interest. 

  • Take no money from military contractors, fossil fuel and private prison industries.

  • Advocate for Public Financing of elections and overturning Citizens United.

  • Advocate for democracy for all through support of fair and transparent election policy including hand-marked paper ballots, support increased voter access without suppression, support fairly drawn election districts and encouraging access to elected officials for all voters.

  • Protect our first amendment rights and freedom of the press.

 

HEALTHCARE  IS  A  HUMAN RIGHT

  • Support a national and state Single Payer/Medicare-For-All program. 

  • Present legislation to create a comprehensive guaranteed health care system.

  • Expand local healthcare benefits and community hospitals.

EDUCATION IS A HUMAN RIGHT

  • Expand funding for public education, including preschool.

  • Increase the number of schools.

  • Fully funded tuition-free public college education.

  • Sponsor national or state programs to reverse student debt.

  • No diversion of public funds to private charter schools.

 

HOUSING IS A HUMAN RIGHT

  • Increase Public Housing development.

  • Repeal Costa-Hawkins.

  • Locally support rent stabilization and the protection of tenant’s rights. 

  • Rent should not exceed 30% of annual incomes of families making under $60,000.

  • Advocate for safe spaces and temporary shelter for the unhoused including access to food, personal hygiene, and other assistance as needed/wanted.

 

LIVING WAGE IS A HUMAN RIGHT

  • Fight for a living wage indexed to inflation and the cost of living.

  • Support a Universal Jobs Program.

  • Abolish Right To Work laws.

  • Protect workers right of Collective Bargaining and a contract.

 

JUSTICE IS A HUMAN RIGHT

  • End mass incarceration.

  • End the failed War on Drugs.

  • End Cash Bail and replace with risk assessment program.

  • End private prisons.

  • Prosecute Police Brutality.

  • Support experimental programs of community policing.

  • Push for Newark and Union City to become Sanctuary Cities.

  • Protect DREAMers and TPS recipients.

  • Abolish ICE.

 

DIGINITY IS A HUMAN RIGHT

  • Nobody should be discriminated against for who they are.   

  • Oppose LGBTQIA discrimination, religious discrimination, and ethnic discrimination in any form.

  • Expand Social Security benefits.

  • Invest in Senior Centers for citizens in loneliness and need.

 

PRIVACY IS A HUMAN RIGHT

  • Protect all women’s right of choice.

  • Reverse the state’s power of surveillance.

  • Bolster Internet Privacy laws that prevent the sale of personal information to third parties.

  • Legalize the local cannabis delivery market.

 

HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT IS A HUMAN RIGHT

  • Endorse, support and advocate for emergency national mobilization for Climate Crisis.

  • 100% Solar/Renewable based economy.

  • Ban hydraulic fracturing (fracking.)

  • Restrict single-use plastics and end the wasteful use of all plastics.

  • Reject any privatization of water sources.

  • Clean water is a human right.

  • Divest public funds from fossil fuel industries.

  • Invest in a 100% renewable green public infrastructure.

  • Expand Mass Transit for all communities.

  • Retrofit community buildings with solar power systems.

  • Provide more charging spaces for vehicles.

  • Protect public common spaces and parks.

  • Develop new local Recycle Programs.

  • Require humane treatment of all living creatures.

 

ECONOMIC JUSTICE

 

  • Sponsor, advocate for, and endorse non-regressive tax policy.

  • Support, advocate for, and endorse the Earned Income Tax Credit expansion as outlined in the Grow American Incomes Now Act (GAIN)*

  • Sponsor, advocate for, and endorse policy that redistributes wealth to the working class to close the income and wealth gap through progressive taxation

 

INTERNET FOR ALL

 

  • Adopt Ro Khanna’s Six Principles for and Internet Bill of Rights**:

  • Right to universal web access

  • Right to net neutrality

  • Right to be free from warrantless metadata collection

  • Right to disclose amount, nature, and dates of secret government data requests

  • Right to be fully informed of scope of data use

  • Right to be informed when there is change of control over data.

  • Recognize that the internet is the new economic landscape and invest in broadband infrastructure into rural and low income communities. 

  • Sponsor Municipal Internet programs to democratize internet usage and increase economic development.

  • Support regulation of broadband internet as a utility.

  

PEACE IS A HUMAN RIGHT

 

  • Oppose all interventionist regime change projects.

  •  End our military adventurism in the Middle East.

  •  Divest public funds from the military industrial complex.

  •  Require financial audit of the military.

  •  Support self-determination for Puerto Rico, District of Columbia, Guam, & the US Virgin Islands in regard to a path to statehood, independence or continuation of current status.
